La. Democratic Party offers voter assistance for 5th District election

The Louisiana Democratic party prepared some way to organize a program to help the people to vote. The Democratic Party Executive Director Stephen Handwerk said that he encourages everybody to exercise their rights by voting.

This party made another way to vote without your ID cards. You do not have to have a ID card or any licenses, because you can sign an affidavit and still vote.

I was impressed by the way how the house was preparing ways for the people to vote to their departments and parties. I was able to know how people in each parties want people to vote for them in order to carry out the policies they want.

Judiciary Would be Spared from Shutdown Disruption

There was a shutdown in the government recently.

There are three branches in the government working together in order to create a peaceful and great nation. However, there is a branch that has to continue working even though the government shutdowns. It is the judicial branch. For at least the first 10 days of any shutdown, the judicial branch will continue working.

Most of the things that the judicial branch does are very important to the people of the country, so it is very hard to shutdown the judicial branch, which includes other courts around the country.

The good thing is that they will always be paid for the hours they work for. It states in the Article of the Constitution. (Article III) "The Us Supreme Court, the federal courts of appeals and district courts, and the U.S. Court of International Trade would continue to get paid without interruption."

Since this branch is very important, I also thought the judicial branch is not going to shutdown as two other branches did. Can't live with out law!

What happens with congressional employees if the government shuts down?

This article is really interesting, because they talk about and predict what will happen when the government shutdown. This article states particular jobs that can't rest during the shutdown. Sometimes, there are people who want a tour around the congress, you should not expect a tour guide, because they will not be there.
The poorest people in US are the barbers, gift-shop employees. They cannot have a break even though the government shuts down. I can't think of the government shutting down, but there might be a possibility.

IMF's Lagarde: Euro Zone Still Has Far to go on Fiscal Union

The head of IMF said that they have to talk about making fiscal union in Europe in order to prepare for future crises.

"We very much think of the euro area as a beautiful ship that has been pampered for the soft seas, but not completely finished for rough waters," said Christine Lagarde about the fiscal federalism at the finance ministry of France. She told people that they need a new plan and to prepare for the future, they have to add some policies and activate fiscal federalism in the country. She also told, if the fiscal systems unite, it will help the euro zone have less destruction caused by economical crises.

Also, in this meeting the finance minister Mr. Moscovici spoke about their insurance system and other ways to set up budgets for government's choices.

We all know money is a crucial source to run a government or their policies. The area of a government to collect tax, fund policies, and budgeting are things that the fiscal federation has to handle. Through this article I was able to learn the importance of fiscal federation's role in the government.

Questions of Policy and Leadership Dog Obama Before Meeting in Russia

President Obama recently cancelled a meeting with the President of Russia. The main topic was supposed to be was about the safety or protection of Syria. Russia thinks that Syrians did not use any chemical weapons, and to prove, U.S. needs more evidence before taking action to Syria.

Because of this controversial event, President Obama has complicated his diplomatic relationships between many nations.

Later in one of his speech, President Obama said that he did not set a red line, but instead, he said that the world set the red line. This makes sense, because the chemical weapon that Syrians might have used have caused death to more than 100,000 people.

President Obama is trying to find budget for military action to Syria. He wants the military much better than the ones who were sent to Iraq. Mr. Obama is also suffering from the expectations that his presidency would bring a new character to American leadership in the world.

President Obama has to realize that his power or his authority is coming from the people of the United States and maybe from people of the world. Popular Sovereignty explains that the government gets its authority from the people and that ultimate political power remains with the people, not only the leaders but with all people. Before taking action, he has to know what the people wants the government to do. If the Syrians used the chemical weapons, it is a crime against humanity and something should happen. However, President Obama has to consider that his authority comes from the people of United States.

Declaration of Independence signer's home vandalized in Portsmouth

August 26th, a burglary happened in a house of a signer of Declaration of independence. It was the house of William Whipper, one of the three New Hampshire signers to the document. The man broke some items in the house. He says that he was being chased by two people, but there are no other evidences.

William Whipper, even though he is not here anymore, his property should have been more carefully protected or guarded. I think that is a way to treat a man that contributed to the nation's declaration or freedom.

Vietnam War casualty Daniel Shea of W. Amwell honored at the Wall in Washington

Learning about Vietnam War in class, I read this article and it is about a man who lost his life due to poison gas (Agent Orange). Daniel Shea, was a photographer of 1st infantry in Vietnam. His wife said that he loved war and loved taking photos of the war. The interesting fact about this man is that he also served in Korea during the Korean War.  whole purpose of this article and the interview was made because Daniel Shea will go on the Online Honor Roll. She is sad to meet his husband the way she didn't want to, but still she is glad to have him back.

People are still sad, because they have lost their loved once because of the war. I really appreciate of the government honoring people who have sacrificed in the war despite their positions.

Wisconsin World War II Veteran, 91, Dies while Waiting Honor Flight

The man in the center is the veteran of Wisconsin, Walter Smith, who was waiting for an honor trip by the trip. He died while they were going to the airport. Everyone thought that he was sleeping in the car, but when they tried to wake him up, he did not wake up. He was carried by an ambulance, and on his way to the hospital, he died.

He is a veteran and was fighting with cancer. The family said that he was so excited about the trip. They never thought that he is going to live for more than a year when he got the cancer, but the trip made him live longer.

There are veterans in Korea who are still alive. They should be treated like this man. Of course, they get some advantages, but a special trip to somewhere or a special event will make their lives better.

Theater review: Dive into the urban Renaissance of Harlem in Knock Me A Kiss

Harlem Renaissance which was the renaissance for African American culture, had a great boom in the 1920s. However, all of those traditions had started since the 14th century. During the Harlem Renaissance, there were many people who created lots of art works. The work that is introduced in this article, Knock me a kiss, which is a play about W. E. B. Du Bois, was one of the art works that is related to the Harlem Renaissance. This play was not created in the 1920s, but it showed how great was the Renaissance. There was a writer named Countee Cullen. This play is about him getting married with W. E. B. Du Bois.

Current writers often write poems, stories, or scripts about the past events. It is a great thing to do, because through those events, people can remember the events that happened before. Even though there are lots and lots of history-based art works, people don't seem to care. I wish there was a class that handled this kind of art works.

Scots World War I commemorations announced by Alex Salmond

Basically, this article is talking about the sacrifice that the Scottish servicemen made during the war and people are trying to hold a annual commemoration for them. They say that they are planning to invest 2 million pounds worth of money to build a memorial facilities.A total of 205 men lost their lives during the war.

We remember people who sacrificed and contributed a lot to the modern society or the country. We remember people who were great professionals in each of the area. We don't really know who sacrificed for the nation during the war. It is just a matter of numbers, and every one of th
em are worth other great men. The Scottish government did a great job trying to thank the people who sacrificed for the country and the world's peace.

Personally, I was surprised to see the people trying to remember people who were killed in World War I. I just thought it is natural for people to forget, and mostly people try to remember the things they could. I thought it was the second World War that this article was talking about at first.

Mining giant claims more women in workforce a 'top priority'

One mining company wants women to fill 2,000 jobs in Queensland developments. This company has another branch in Australia which 12% of them are made of women. That was an increase of 32% since 2010.
They are opening works for schools and various jobs. They are planning to have 20% representatives of their work.
Anglo is developing a great project that costs $1.7 billion in Central Queensland. Also, it creates 1,000 new jobs when it is finished.

In the past, women were unfairly treated and didn't really get the reward for their works. They weren't able to get higher education than man. However, I think women nowadays have better productivity in their works than men.
Making jobs for people is another way of growing one country's economy and especially for women is another solution of the problems that they had in late 19th century.

Melikian to Receive Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award

This article is mainly talking about the events that will be held to different and various ethnic groups. There will be an honor ceremony to all the people in different areas. The most important thing was that it is going to be held in Ellis Island, which was known as the golden gate of Immigrants and the price is given to people from different ethnicity.

I think this price is not only celebrating the people who did a great job in their area, but it is also to remember the days when people from all over the world came in. Whoever started this event should be a person who highly respected the history.

The Civil War in Iraq

Leaders of the middle east fear that there might be another civil war in Iraq. Many people say that it will be worse than the ones in Syria. The Prime minister is in panic. Until last month, UN reported that there were 700 people killed due to violence and the war.

Now, in US History class, we learned about the Civil War. The Civil War in America brought a lot of deaths. Back then, they didn't have any advanced or chemical weapons. However there were many casualties. Today in Iraq, they have much more advanced weapons. A civil war is happening right now in Syria, and the civil war in Iraq could make situations worse.

I'm just worried that these civil wars will be another issue to start another world war.

Bennett Place Examines Civil War Art and Journalism

In this article, they celebrate the 148th anniversary of the Civil War. Mainly, this article focuses on the greatest surrender at Bennett Place. Some people are drawing the war scene at Bennett Place and people were there to see the interesting celebration. This place, Bennett Place, is also known for the negotiation place for two generals who are Gen. Joseph E. Johnston and Gen. William T. Sherman. Through this negotiation war in some places ended and some confederate states surrendered.

I don't know if Korea is going to celebrate the war that we had about 50 years ago. I truly wish that we can just keep the war in our memory. I don't want to war happening in the world, especially in our country. (this sounds greedy)

‘This really was fate’: Relic hunter unites Civil War soldier’s ring with Pa. relatives

This article talks about the family’s treasure returning to the family. The treasure was found out to be a silver ring. It belonged to Levi Schlegel, a soldier who was sacrificed during the Civil War.
The son of Levi Schlegel used facebook to report that the owner of the ring was his father, and it was returned to the family safely.

Our US History class is doing a project of analyzing and writing the journals as if we were the real characters that involved in the wars. After reading this article I thought, we might have another work to do to make up a legacy or something that the descendants of the characters could remember the character.

Education is Women's Salvation

This article is written as a letter to public, written by Van Auken.
This woman wrote how desperate and thirsty for women to be educated.
She wants to have better education system for all people, especially advance in women's education.

The government should support the education, and should get rid of the stereo type that women shouldn't be educated. Especially in the middle east, there should be changes to the government laws in order to protect the women to have a safe education.

In America, the slaves and women weren't able to be educated. There are many people who had sacrificed to let women have education. The education definitely saved women, and thanks to them nowadays, many women have influence in this world.

War of 1812 celebration, exhibit at Naval Academy

This article talks about naval academies celebrating the 200th anniversary of War of 1812.

This article is the shortest article I've ever read in my life. It just says that the naval academies in US celebrated the 200th anniversary of War of 1812. I didn't really care about today, but I was surprised when I thought that it was 200 years after the War of 1812.

While I was reading this article, I hoped that today, the days I live, will be recorded as an important source of history.

Schumer Calls For ‘Bill Of Rights’ For Cruise Ship Passengers

This article tells how serious the problems of the ferry ships are. The senator of New York wants the companies to have a certain policies for travelers safety and comfort.

The senator requires the following:

1.      The right to disembark a docked ship if basic provisions cannot adequately be provided onboard
2.      The right to a full refund for a trip that is abruptly canceled due to mechanical failures
3.      The right to full-time, on board professional medical attention in the event of a major health crisis
4.      The right to real-time information updates as to any adjustments in the travel plan of the ship in the event of a mechanical failure or emergency
5.      The right to a ship crew that is properly trained in emergency and evacuation procedures
6.      The right to backup power in the case of a generator failure

I agree to the senator of New York, because I won't ride ferries if they don't protect my safety and make me worried, causing stress.

All of these things are related to the original Bill of Rights. It requires people certain rights and freedom. It made people to interact with the policies better. This article made a good relevance to our lesson in US History class. If the ferries will have those kinds of policies, more passengers might come and ride the ferries.

The College Declaration of Independence

This article talks about the college students being free from their parents. According to this article, there are mainly two types of students. One type of students want to go to the college near their house so they could meet their family often. However, there are students who want to go far away and have a life of their own and change.

College is a place of change and self development. There shouldn't be any pressure to the people, because college students are old enough to do their work. As the title says, college students should declare independence from their family. However, it doesn't mean that you are literary independence, but you should be able to take care of yourself when you hit college.

As the United States declared independence from Great Britain and learned to live by themselves adapting to the new land and new government,  I think that people have to strive to be responsible for their own tasks, not receiving any pressure from the outer pressure.

Manchester United VS Real Madrid: UEFA takes action

Louis Nani, a player of Manchester United, is sent off the ground receiving a red card of the game. When Manchester United was leading against Real Madrid(RM), Nani's red card changed the entire game. He was sent off and Manchester United(MU) lacked 1 position. They gave lots of opportunities to RM and finally lost.
The thing is, when a player receives a red card, the coach has to come and have an interview with the reporters about how he will act to the player who has received one. However, Nani's red card changed everything that the head coach of MU, Sir Alex Ferguson, had planned. Therefore, he did not appear but he sent his assistant to go on an interview instead of him. Therefore, UEFA(Europe Football Association) is discussing about how much of fine or penalty should MU receive due to breaking of the law.
MU is known as the biggest club in the world and the richest club in the world, and it seemed to me that MU is a Native American Tribe that the UEFA, which I compare it to the English government, is trying colonize them. Manchester was the only club that had strongly acted against UEFA. It seemed to me that UEFA is trying to give them the "Navigation Act", trying to regulate their economic or influence on people.

Early Choices Spawned Slavery

Summary

This article is talks about how slavery increased in the Americas and comparison to the indentured servants who were from Europe.
They had different religions and different skin collar, so they were discriminated and brought in to the Americas as slaves. They were put into many tobacco, corn and other plantations. At that time, there were many indentured servants, but after a certain period of time, they are going to be free and might have a piece of land for themselves in one of the regions of America. The landowners wanted to have a slave that doesn’t get free and have them permanently. Also, European indentured servants became more expensive. Then slave trade started to boom and slaves from Africa were brought in. Africans didn’t known anything about the reason why they were brought. However, in order to maintain their lives, they relied on their masters and had to do what they say.
It mainly introduces the sufferings that the African slaves had to suffer.

Opinion

I just want to say that they were just greedy for money. They didn’t really think the slaves were the same people as them. Like President Obama, people all have the equal chance of being leaders. We are all same people and he did something great in American History.

Relevance to Lesson
This article mainly talks about the Slave trade & Indentured servants that I've learned in US History Class.

Native Americans object to use of White Buffalo at Dallas gas station

Summary
There is a woman named Yolanda Blue Horse, and she feels uncomfortable of her culture and religion being used as an advertisement for products. In one of the cities, there was a white buffalo was genetically bred. Blue Horse feels that even though the animal was genetically bred, it is still one of their sacred animals and she feels that this animal should not be something to be shown to the crowd to earn money with. She wants the white buffalo to return to the nature.

Relevance to Lecture
What I learned in class was that Native Americans sold everything but land and the life beings living on land. This showed how much the Americans cared about their nature, culture, and other living things on that land. Unfortunately, that led Europeans using force to gain the land.

Opinion
People have lots of things that they could use as a source of advertisement. There should be some respect of other cultures in multicultural countries. People care about their culture and religion, and they are not something that we can offend or use them as something to gain money with.
